Serving God
To fulfil our purpose in the plan of God besides knowing Him and loving Him, we must serve Him as well. And how can we serve God?
We know that God has everything that He needs, He can easily command His angels to execute any order and His command will be executed immediately. He can create anything He wants anytime; He does not really need creatures like us who offend Him so often to serve Him. But He has commanded that we love one another as He has loved us. (John 13:34)
God has taught us the golden rule “do to others as you would like them to do to you”. (Matthew 7:12) He will not judge us according to our sins but according to our good works on behalf of our brothers. (Matthew 25:34-40) He will ask us the same question He asked Cain after he killed his brother Abel: “where is your brother” (Genesis 4:9)
The easiest way to serve God is becoming his servant. Jesus came to serve God and His brothers (Matthew 20:28) he taught us to learn from Him.
To serve God, we must become His instruments. By allowing God to live in us, to act in us, to will in us and to work in us, we become perfect instruments of God.
We must become His eyes to look around and see the needs of others. We must become His feet to go where God is needed. We must become His hands to do His work. We must become His ears to listen to the cry of the poor and the needy. We must become His heart to be merciful and kind and to respond to those who need Him. We must become His feet to go and preach His good news and to be His example. We must become His generosity, kindness, friendship, understanding and love that so many people need in this world.
In other words, the all powerful God takes delight in being with us and manifest his power, wisdom and love through our service to humanity.
The power of God flows into the world through merciful hearts. God’s instruments carry the power of the Holy Spirit and bring healing, peace, love and joy to the world.
We are all called to become channels of the Holy Spirit. Like a switch that is turned on and brings light into a room or gets a machine working, we become powerful instruments of God when we make ourselves available to Him and serve Him.
Service to God must be done with humility and without any interest of reward. If we help someone and receive payment, we already had our reward. When we serve through charity, the payment is a treasure in Heaven that keeps growing with interest. God will repay us some in this life and the rest in the other. (Matthew 19:29)
And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life.
The Lord says in Luke 6:38 give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back."
