This prayer is an adaptation of instructions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Maria of Agreda, a Spanish nun.
I command you, my soul and all my faculties, this inviolable rule: Seek your sustenance in the light of Divinity, live incessantly occupied in the ardent meditation and contemplation of the holy law, of the Word of God, day and night, adore the Most High Lord without ceasing, purify yourself in the burning fire of your charity continuously and never allow yourself to be away from Him at any time because of external work or occupation of the state of my life.
I also command you, my senses, to only serve the spirit, and even though we are in the world, to die to it, ignoring its vanities; Live only for what is necessary for nature and grace and do not let yourselves be carried away by sensible delights, except in what the upper part of the soul permits.
